1. What is SnSfeeed

SnSfeeed is a not-for-profit scheme to provide fast, cheap internet connections to people in Sussex & beyond.

2. How does it help me?

We can connect you wirelessly to our systems - and provide you with cheap internet

3. How much does it cost?

We provide a standard internet connection for £6.95.  If you want more bandwidth - please ask.

4. Can I help?

We are looking for people to host nodes for us.  Ideally, you will have an ADSL connection, although we are also looking for repeater nodes.  Contact Ian NOW

5. What do I get out of hosting a node?

You get PAID!  Full, connected nodes get £5 per user per month, repeater nodes can get free broadband access.

6. How are you able to provide this service so cheap?

By sharing internet connections between many users, the costs can be shared amoungest a group.  Our system provides the facilities to enable this type of sharing.

7. Is it legal?

Totally!  The RadioCommunications agency released the 2.4Ghz band for Wireless networks last year.  Our system works purely with Wireless Network technology.

8. Is it secure?

The Internet is an non-secure environment.  However, as long as you use services which are secure (such as home banking) then you will be fine.

The wireless network we run has security protocols in place to stop people 'sniffing' the connection.  Unauthorised users are not allowed on the Wireless Network, and so cannot interfere.  Authorised users are advised to have adequate Firewall and Anti-Virus software installed on any machine connected to the Internet (not just the Mesh!)

9. What about Installation?

Depending on your location, you might need an aerial outside.

If you are very near to a Node, then you should be able to use just a simple wireless card that fits in your PC.
If you are out of a range for a simple wireless card alone, then an external Antenna can be fitted to increase the range
In extreme cases (1 mile approx from a Node) a directional antenna can be used to access the network

We are not aerial fitters - we recommend that a qualified, insured antenna specialist installs the antenna for you.  We will explain what you need to connect to the Network if required.

10. Who are You?

We are a group of enthusiasts who are trying to build a large network of users around Sussex.  We do this for fun - because it makes us smile - and our hair go grey and fall out!  Call us geeks/nerds - its about right!  Our Wives are computer widows - now, aren't you glad you asked!

11. What happens to the money I pay for a connection?

Well, some of it goes to pay for this website, advertising, and repaying the money us geeks have already forked out.  Some goes to another group of geeks, who are kindly supplying us (and you!) with support and advice, and the rest goes to Node owners, to help pay for their internet connection that you are using as part of the Network.

12. How does it work?

See our How it Works page.

You can find it printed on your WiFi card - it's 12 digits long, or in
Windows 95/98/ME: click on the start button, click run and type WINIPCFG then hit enter. The wireless adapter address is the one you need. Something like:" 00-B0-D0-5F-2F-33" There may be a - instead of : or no gaps just 12 digits/letters! You must give us using : between each pair of digits/letters. A 0 is a zero not the letter O!!Your computer may well have a few adapter addresses. You must give us the wireless adapter address. In Windows 2K , click start then run, a small widow appears type CMD an ethernet adapter network connection should show. The physical address is the 12 digit Mac Address. In Windows XP, click start, then run, then put in CMD, then type in carefully IPCONFIG /ALL (there is a space between the G and the /) Then look for the physical address in the Ethernet wireless Adapter connection
